Email running slow? Check your Outlook folder sizes to optimize your mailbox

When it comes to your mailbox, size matters. Here are a few signs that your mailbox size requires your immediate attention:

  • Every time you run Outlook, there is a “Your mailbox is becoming too large” system warning waiting for you;
  • Outlook is running slower than it used to;
  •  You waste a lot of time trying to find emails or attachments in a disorganized mailbox.

But when you have dozens of folders, how do you know which ones could benefit from a good cleaning? Where are your largest emails hiding?

Fortunately, Outlook has a tool that can help you find out.

To see the size of your Outlook folders:

Select “Tools” -> “Mailbox cleanup:” from the Outlook main menu.

Click “View mailbox size”

Outlook will then calculate the size of each of your mailboxes. You can also use this window to find emails that are older than a certain date or larger than a certain size, and permanently delete emails.

That’s all there is to it! Taking just 5 minutes to clean up your mailbox will go a long way to increasing your bandwidth and having a more productive day!
